Something we see in the business world unfortunately often, firefighting (in this context at least) is the reactive, high-stress practice of constantly addressing urgent, unexpected crises rather than focusing on planned, strategic work.
It involves directing time and resources to fix immediate problems ("fires"), which often lead to short-term stopgap solutions ("band-aids").
We spend a lot of time with clients pushing the needle away from firefighting and often find ourselves uncovering a bit of firefighting that teams weren't even aware could be resolved with more proactive solutions.
