
Apologies in advance for picking on Miro — it is a tool with some great functionality, especially for remote, globally distributed teams. Apple's new-ish 'freeform' accomplishes something similar and Figma at its absolute most base form as well.
Here's the thing though — you're not actually illustrating anything for anyone, literally or figuratively, by using one of these digital tools. What is lost is the connection between the explainer and that which is being explained, arguably the most important part of using the tool in the first place. There is something so beautifully simple and quick (ironically so, considering the professed improvements of technological advancement) about marker, board, eraser, audience.
We have two of these bad boys on wheels at our HQ and they are used constantly — to further describe an idea, to keep track of conversation during a workshop or even to take a quick hangman break.
