Design studio Symbolplus has renovated its office in Tokyo to honor the request Akio Hayashi, architect of the timber-framed building that their office is set within, to use natural Japanese materials to fit out their workspace.
They crushed the brief. Using earthen plaster and delicate Japanese paper, Symbolplus put together a space that is so tranquil, inherently Japanese and astoundingly beautiful that we might find it difficult to shift away from inspiration and back into focused productivity. What we think makes this space particularly special, beyond its objective beauty or functionality, is its timelessness. It would have been stunning 100 years ago and we're confident it will remain as such 100 years from now.
